Unpolished 38: An Unpolished Journey Interview with Dana Malstaff

“Don’t follow your passion, follow your gift.”

In this episode of the Unpolished Journey, we talk with Dana Malstaff, the CEO and founder of Boss Mom. Dana is a mother, author, business strategist, podcaster, blind spot reducer, and movement maker. She is the author of Boss Mom: The Ultimate Guide to Raising a Business & Nurturing Your Family Like a Pro. Dana has over 20k students in various courses and community that is over 30K strong.  With over 10 years of experience in content creation, marketing, sales, community building, and business strategy, Dana grew the Boss Mom brand into a six-figure business in less than a year. Her Boss Mom Movement is all about losing the guilt when it comes to raising babies and businesses at the same time, and believes that pursuing our passions and building our dreams while including our children in the process, is the best way to build thriving businesses and families.

Dana talks to us about some rarely shared stories from her entrepreneurial journey in a refreshingly honest and authentic way. The conversation was so good in fact, that we decided to split it into two episode so you can really sink into the nuggets of wisdom she shared. In this first part, you’ll hear about:

  • The origin story for how her successful business came to be
  • Mom guilt and why it’s OK to want to build your own business
  • Lessons you can learn from seemingly random jobs in the corporate world
  • The importance of understanding your business feng shui
  • Why the idea of following a sewing pattern is critical to understanding how to learn from people and programs you purchase
  • The importance of telling the universe what you want and letting it unfold for you
  • And more!

Let us know what resonated most with you from this episode, and check back next week to hear even more nuggets of wisdom in part two. And in the meantime, to learn more about Dana check out www.boss-mom.com

Unpolished 35: An Unpolished Journey Interview with Crystalee Beck

“We have the power to create what we want. It might take time or effort, but if we’re really committed to creating what we want and have a clear vision, we can absolutely do it.”

In this episode of the Unpolished Journey, we talk with Crystalee Beck, a mama of two cute mess-makers (with one more on the way!), writer, six-figure entrepreneur, and co-founder of The Mama Ladder International, an organization that empowers women at the intersection of motherhood and entrepreneurship. After leaving her corporate ladder job, she “created her own ladder” to fit her family in 2016. You can learn more about the programs they offer here: www.themamaladder.com and follow them on Instagram @themamaladder

We talk about how the idea for the mama ladder came to be, why the moment her son was born powerfully changed how she approached her life, and how balance and motivation are the keys to managing running a business and raising kids. So many people feel torn between a career and kids, and Crystalee shows us that you can do both in ways that are healthy and joyful by creating and building your own ladder. She also shares how we can all learn from the painful moments in our lives, and why that often turns into opportunities to do something great.

After listening to the episode, we’d love to hear from you—what does your ladder look like? What is the vision of the life you’re dreaming of, and what is one small step that you can take today that will help you get there?

Unpolished 15: Let It Unfold

Have you ever noticed how decluttering the physical space of your home can create fresh space in your life to invite in something new? Sarah shares an update on the impact of her big purge and we discuss how timing and fuel are the key ingredients to make something like this actually work. When we address what we need in each moment, our lives can feel so much different. Stacy shares her experience owning her needs on a recent business trip and how the idea of unfolding is resonating with her. We talk about the difference between letting something unfold vs. being lazy and how important it is to recognize what our sun, soil, and water are in our lives as we let things feel easy and simply wait for them to bloom as they are meant to.
